- Federal Government sets awarding amounts each year. Refer to the Pell Chart for awarding levels.
- Eligibility determined from the FAFSA, available to undergrads, first time degree seeking, Res and Non-res.
- Entitlement Funding: Student can be in an over award situation and be eligible for full Pell Grant if they do not have other Title IV aid. Common examples —
- Students on athletic scholarship.
- Students receiving many scholarships.
- Eligibility is based off the PRIMARY EFC calculation determined by the FAFSA process.
- To determine student's award eligibility, refer to the Pell Grant chart for the specific awarding year in question. Pell Grant charts can be found in the Packaging Information section, on SFS-411, for each packaging year.
- Pell Grant is pro-rated based on student's enrollment, refer to Pell Grant chart.
- If student does not use full Pell Grant eligibility for fall and spring, they may have eligibility for funding in the summer but the amount is pro-rated based on the student's enrollment. The typical 6 credits of enrollment for summer would equate to 50% of the remaining unused Pell Grant award.
- WSU is considered a "Trailer School" — this means that for financial aid funding, summer is considered a "trailer" to the academic year. New FAFSA filers entering WSU in the summer can be considered for Pell Grant but they must have a FAFSA on file for the current year. Common examples —
- Freshman entering Summer 2016: would need to file a 2015-2016 FAFSA to be awarded summer aid and a 2016-2017 FAFSA for the upcoming awarding cycle.
- Student MUST BE AWARDED PELL GRANT to be considered for Cougar Commitment funding if applicable.
